MY RESPONSIBILITY
My goal is to provide a safe, positive, encouraging atmosphere for music students to learn. I will do my best to teach each student based on their individual needs and musical interests.
STUDENT AND PARENT RESPONSIBILITY
- Students agree to arrive at each lesson well prepared, on time and with all music books.
- Daily practice is necessary for good progress to occur. Parents are encouraged to be active and supportive participants in practice at home.
- I want everyone to understand all practice assignments, so please don’t hesitate to ask.
- Students are encouraged to attend all recitals.
- Each student must have access to an acoustic piano. Keyboards are not acceptable.
- If something is happening at home or school that could affect your child, please let me know. A quick text could mean the difference between a fantastic lesson or a frustrating one.
STUDIO COURTESY
Because this studio is in our family home, please be respectful of our family time and do not drop off a student earlier than 5 minutes. Please pick up your student punctually after a lesson. Frequently, our family must move on to other things and I don't want to leave your child alone outside to wait. If your child is waiting during a sibling's lesson, make sure they have a book or can sit quietly for the entire lesson. Students are required to remain in the piano studio room while they wait.
TUITION
$65 a month for 35, 30 minute weekly lessons spread over a school year.
$98 a month for 35, 45 minute weekly lessons spread over a school year.
$130 a month for 35, 1 hour weekly lessons spread over a school year.
Tuition is due the first lesson of the month.
Not only does tuition cover 35 weekly lessons, it also includes:
- One yearly recital, venue rental fees and expenses
- Recital preparation, repertoire planning and administrative details
- One makeup lesson the last week in May, as needed
- Hours of teacher preparation and book-keeping
- Training, experience, piano maintenance and tunings
- Continuing Education
LIBRARY/MATERIALS FEE
A yearly $25 fee is due the first lesson of the year. This covers the use of my piano library and materials.
SCHEDULE
I teach from August thru May and follow the Washakie County School District schedule. If school is out for the day or holiday break, piano is also not held. I do my best to schedule all 35 yearly lessons around the school holidays. Currently I don’t offer summer lessons.
GROUP STUDIO CLASSES
Occasionally, a group class will be held instead of a weekly lesson. Students are grouped according to music level and age. These classes are a good opportunity for students to learn together and play music for each other.
ENROLLMENT
When students enroll they are reserving their specific time-slot in the studio for the entire year.
CANCELLATION POLICY
Any lesson I cancel will be made-up or a lesson credit will be given.
No make up lesson or credit will be offered for students who miss a lesson for any reason.
Try to choose a lesson time that you feel confident about and understand that the tuition you pay reserves a weekly time-slot in my schedule for your child. I cannot resell that time or create extra time to teach lessons.
To accommodate unavoidable cancellations, you may attempt to switch lesson times with another student if you choose. I can provide contact information as needed, with permission from parents.
MUSIC REQUIREMENTS
For beginning students, I will loan out any needed method/supplement books that they will require on the first lesson.
For transfer students, bring any current books you have been learning from to your first lesson and we will go from there. I find it often takes a few months to get settled with the proper repertoire. Your student will be loaned music from my library to use as needed from that point on.
I allow students to borrow music from my piano library. I am not responsible for any damage done to loaned music. If damages occur beyond the usual wear and tear, the music will need to be replaced by the parents/student.
RECITALS
I hold at least one recital a year. Students are strongly encouraged to attend. Students should wear dress clothes unless they dress up for a Halloween recital. Family and friends are always invited to attend unless I specify otherwise, such as in the case of a mini or student-only recital.
LATE PAYMENTS
Tuition is due the first lesson of the month. I understand when a parent forgets a check. However, because this is my job and income, please understand that a $15 fee is added for any tuition that isn’t paid by the second lesson of the month. If a check is returned for any reason, a $25 fee will be added to the tuition. If one month passes with no payment, your student will be dismissed from the piano studio.
DISCONTINUING LESSONS
Every student stops taking lessons at some point. Ideally this decision is made thoughtfully with plenty of discussion between myself, the parent and student in order for positive closure to occur.
At my discretion, a student may be asked to discontinue lessons at any time if they have unpaid tuition, an excess amount of absences or unprepared lessons, or if they show a lack of interest.
